Product Description
The new Eureka Optima offers the power of an upright at 1/2 the weight! It also features the ONLY soft-grip looped handle that adjusts to more than 8 positions so any user can find his or her optimal user height and ensures the most comfortable grip at any cleaning angle. Optima uses a 12-amp motor for deep cleaning your carpets like a full size upright, but weighs just 11 lbs. It also has an on/off brushroll for cleaning bare floors and on-board tools and a no-tip design for above the floor cleaning. The easy-empty dust cup has the same dust capacity a a full size upright and was designed so you don't touch the filter when emptying the cup. (similar models: 431A, 431AZ)

3 out of 5 stars It's a fan too!   January 9, 2010
Tony Kwong (Oregon)
Powerful vacuum. Lightweight also. But it blows everything. The exhaust fan is located in the front. So when you vacuum, it blows it all away. Bad design. Tools work great. Good for small apartment. Not for large home.

1 out of 5 stars Burns out motors if filter isn't changed OFTEN.   January 8, 2010
A. Linardi (Newark, NY)
I would NEVER buy another one of these again. The first one they shipped died in less than a week. The $10 filters that you HAVE to change every 3-4 times you use it can't be cleaned. You must buy them which means you will spend $10 every few times you want to vacuum. I have all hard wood floors accept for a few area rugs. We have one cat, one kid and a wood stove. We don't make huge messes. I wish I could post a video of this crappy vacuum NOT being able to pick up a Cheerio because you'd laugh!. I'm writing this review because I just changed the filter on the replacement they sent and and tried cleaning some sawdust from around the wood stove and the motor died AGAIN.

I really wanted a Regina Carpet Sweeper but they don't make them anymore. :o(

DO NOT BUY THIS VACUUM!!!

1 out of 5 stars Clever Design but Noisy, Poor Performer   November 26, 2009
John (Boston, MA)
I bought this product over a year ago, and unfortunately I regret it. I still like most of the features that drew me to it: it's small, it's lightweight, and it has a clever design. However it has several unfortunate problems that make it very unsatisfying:

CONS:
1. it is extremely loud! Worse than a shop vac.
2. the filter clogs and prevents proper suction (must be cleaned upon each use for effective cleaning).
3. because you have to hand-pick the lint from the filter, emptying the canister is much messier and inconvenient than the design suggests. Given this experience, I am looking for a bagged vacuum as a replacement.
4. the suction--even with a clean filter and empty canister--is disappointing, especially given how loud the machine is.

PROS:
1. adjustable/collapsible handle
2. small
3. lightweight

All things considered, I would definitely NOT recommend this product unless Eureka completely overhauls the mechanical functioning of the product. To be fair, I have owned 3 other Eureka vacuums over the years and I was very satisfied with them. This product seems to be an anomaly, but even so, I spent money on it and regret it.

3 out of 5 stars Great vacuum -- low cost, good value for several years   October 10, 2009
Steven J. Hodge
Had two of these spanning about 6 years.

Pros:

I think they're pretty well engineered.

Loved the bagless design. Nothing more mind-numbing than trolling department stores looking for a certain paper bag filter every couple of months.

HEPA Filtration was a good feature for me since I have asthma. I didn't mind vacuuming with this model as it did not aggravate my allergies.

Having many plastic parts made this a lightweight and fairly durable vacuum.

Cons:
Though we broke some of the plastic parts (like the clip retaining the cone to the clear canister, and the window covering the clean-out plug, these did not affect its overall usefulness.

What did us in was the wheels breaking off.

4 out of 5 stars Powerful lil' guy   October 9, 2009
Michelle Green (Maryland)
I have had this lil guy for over a year. I love it. Yes the cleaning hose and cord are a little short, but its sooo light weight, I love the collapsing handle and it it great for stairs. Tip on cleaning the filter... Compressed air! I have used both the canned air duster (for electronics) and the one in my garage that runs my tools. Take the filter outside bang it on the ground in the grass and then hit it with the air.
