Love the Dyson March 7, 2010 Andrea Mims (Indiana) Never thought I'd enjoy vacuuming so much. This is the best vacuum I have ever used. It is nimble, light, and powerful. Truly amazing. The cord is a little short, so I can't vacuum multiple rooms without replugging it in. That is a minor complaint. I'd recommend this item to anyone!
Good vac - not versatile March 7, 2010 D. Miller (Kansas) This vacuum does a more thorough job than the bag vacuums that I owned in the past. It is loud. It has a hose with attachments which make it good for ceilings and fans but the handle is so long you can't do close work such as furniture. It is mostly plastic but it has held up pretty good for the year that we have owned it.
i love this little guy... March 3, 2010 D. Haynak (Orlando, Florida USA) I bought the DC18 3 months ago, and I'm thrilled with it. I'm definitely not the kind of person to spend this kind of money on a vacuum, but as the "mom" of 5 cats and 20 finches, I needed a vacuum that could keep up with my mess. I had bought a Eureka about 5 months ago, and within 6 weeks, it was clear that it wasn't going to cut it...what little it did pick up was immediately shot straight out the back and all over my feet, the hose kept popping out, it wouldn't lock into the upright position. It was a disaster. I decided to bite the bullet and spend the money on a decent vacuum. The DC1 ROCKS. It is a tiny little thing that swivels like the ball models, its perfect for navigating in my cramped little house, and stores easily in my tiny storage area. The hose is convenient and easy to use, really stretches pretty far, and is compatible with all of the attachments from my ill fated Eureka. The dirt cup is fairly easy to empty, but I do occasionally have to reach up inside it to clear clogged fur out of it, and that defeats the purpose of the "no touch" emptying feature. I accidentally sucked a clothespin into the hose, and it was really easy to take the hose apart to get at the clog...it all just snaps together again. This vacuum picks up everything, not always in the first sweep over, but in normal back and forth vacuuming, there is nothing left behind. My carpets have never been this clean. My only complaint is that the self adjusting height feature is a problem at the edges of rugs and anywhere that you are trying to vacuum along the edge of two different surfaces. I always have to go back with the hose along the edge of throw rugs or where carpet meets with tile, because the vacuum just can't decide where to set itself, and it misses the birdseed and crumbs along the lower surface. Overall, though, I have to say that this is the best vacuum I've owned, and is worth the money. Does anyone want a gently used Eureka, CHEAP?
Great vacuum, but very average customer service and warranty experience. February 10, 2010 P. Tran (Orange County, CA USA) My rating for the vacuum is 4 stars but my rating for the warranty experience has been 1 star. I have been quite happy with the performance of the Dyson Slim until I had a mechanical problem with the undercarriage and pedal. Suction dropped significantly and then I couldn't put the handle back into upright position. I called the Dyson Warranty hotline and after holding for 10 minutes was able to speak to a live person to explain the problem. They issued a service authorization and gave me the contact info for a local independent vacuum service center. I dropped it off 5 weeks ago and still have no update other than that the "undercarriage assembly" is on back order with Dyson. I called Dyson and waited 10 minutes listening to the hold music. I got a ring tone that suggested that it was finally being transferred to a live customer service rep and then the line immediately went DEAD and I was disconnected by Dyson. I called back and waited 10 minutes yet again and did finally get through to a live person. She was actually friendly but could only confirm that indeed the part was on back order and they were working hard to get them in stock and shipped out to repair centers. She couldn't give me any other info other than that and could not give me an estimate as to when the dealer would receive the part for my repair. The Dyson customer service rep apologized but this still does not in any way resolve the fact that I still have been without a vacuum for 5 weeks now with no end in sight. The independent dealer says that another customer with the same model has been waiting for the exact part for a MONTH longer than I have and is still waiting too. Luckily, I'm able to borrow my neighbor's vacuum otherwise I would have had to go out to PURCHASE a replacement while continuing to wait and wait. I am very disappointed with Dyson and will reconsider if there are other manufacturers in the future that have introduced comparable machines. Dyson was a pioneer in high end vacuums and they still charge a huge price premium and so the service and warranty should reflect this. Sadly, in my experience, it has not.
too big for a light weight vacuumm and too small for a regular vacuum job January 12, 2010 Stela Pen (CO, USA) I can't complain so much about this vacuum because it works ok but I'm disappointed for the price paid. This vacuum is called slim but it's not that light and small. I replaced my hoover and I'm kind of frustrated because this vacuum doesn't catch dog hair if I don't pass the vacuum 2 or 3 times on te same spot. It's not that great for the money you paid.
Well, there is a good thing compared to the hoover I have, it's not so noisy but I never care about vacuum being loud. Other thing that I miss is to be able to control how high I want the brush.
The Ball technology is a little weird, but you get used with that and you see later how easier is the job with this ball technology to move the vacuum.
Empty and dump the dirt from the vacuum container. Since I have dogs, that thing about "dump the dirt with clean hands" in fact doesn't work. Everytime I have to dump the dirt from the vacuum container I have to put my hand to push the dirt because of the hair of the dog that stuck all dirt inside of the container. So this vacuum is not so good if you have lots of hair to catch.
Overall this vacuum is ok, but If I could choose again I would thing twice before get this dyson for this price.
